Around Derwentwater

Around Derwentwater from Keswick round 9.5 miles

Starting clockwise from Keswick this  favourite ride heads down Borrowdale with views all the way of beautiful Derwentwater. In spring watch out for the Bluebells in Big Wood on the left. The first little uphill takes you past Lodore Cafe a great place for a homemade scone and tea. Turn at Grange in Borrowdale and another tearoom with a view down the river or through the village and a great tea shop with homemade flapjack.  Manesty is next with a small incline to the old gate showing the start of the fell. A pretty downhill section and then upwards towards Brandlehow and a beautiful peaceful tiny lake hidden behind an old wall. Watch out for Red squirels, they are often seen. A welcome bench awaits after another climb and views seldom seen of such beauty. This is definitely a place to rest awhile

Catbells terrace follows the route and down the tight and twisty hairpins and over the cattle grid. A long downhill and then a push up towards Swinside where a diversion can be made. Staying on the lake loop it’s back to Portinscale and over the iron bendy bridge to Keswick.
