Mont Faron

Mont Faron …508 metres

Start Round trip Sanary Sur Mer …28 miles

The pretty port of Sanary with it’s colourful boats bobbing gently in the Mediterran, Coffees been enjoyed in the sunshine with the fruit and fish market doing a good trade. How easy it would be to relax at a table and watch the world go by.

But we had an objective for the trip down to the Rivieria ‘Mont Faron’. In a relatively flat landscape this famous mountain stood out proud above Toulon. With it in our sight we made our way along the fairly busy road through Ollioules and into the suburbs of Toulon.

Route finding was fairly easy, just a few mad drivers not appreciating the cyclists with an aim for the day.

Top rated vistas had been promised from vertical heights on this narrow road. What made it a joy was a one way system and no heavy vehicles so a relaxed climb of 9 to nearly 12% gradients could be enjoyed. The temperatures were hot a cool 30% plus.

Warm soft pines, herbs and sunshine flowers awakening the senses and making the ride not as brutal but putting a happy feeling of Provence and pure joy of been on this Mountain.
